Playground & Park Cleaning Cardiff
A playground surface is safety equipment. Cleaning it wrong does not just look bad, it changes how the surface performs when a child falls on it.

The considered playground & park process
Wetpour is not paving
Wetpour and rubber mulch surfaces are bound rubber crumb, and they are designed to absorb impact. High pressure tears the binder, lifts the crumb and leaves loose patches, and once the surface is open it holds water and grows moss faster than before. It also affects the critical fall height the surface was installed to provide, which is the entire reason it is there.
So wetpour is a low pressure job with the right cleaner and a soft rotary head, working across the surface rather than into it, and the moss and algae are treated so they do not come straight back.
Moss on a play surface is a safety issue
Green growth on wetpour, on rubber tiles and on the tarmac paths around a play area is slippery when wet, and play areas are used in all weather by people who are not watching their footing. That is usually the real reason a school or a council calls us, and it changes the priority: treat the growth properly rather than wash off the visible layer.
What we clean in a play area
- Wetpour, rubber mulch and rubber safety tiles.
- Play equipment, frames, slides and climbing units.
- Artificial grass and its infill.
- Paths, gates, fencing and seating.
- Skate parks, MUGAs and ball courts.
Products and re-opening
Everything we use in a play area is chosen so that the surface is safe for children once it is dry and rinsed, and we will tell you the re-opening time before we start rather than leaving you to guess. Where a site is used by a school we work in holidays or outside hours as a matter of course.
In the holidays, or before the gates open
For a school the obvious window is the holidays, and for a public park it is early morning before the site fills up. Either way the area is closed off while we work and handed back only once it is dry, because a wet play surface is exactly the hazard we are there to remove.
Rubber crumb, and keeping it out of the drains
Cleaning wetpour and rubber mulch releases loose crumb, and that must not end up in the surface water drainage where it becomes a pollutant and a blockage. We filter and collect it rather than washing it towards a gully, which is also why we work at low pressure: less crumb comes free in the first place.
Child safe products and re-opening times
Everything used in a play area is chosen so the surface is safe once rinsed and dry, and we tell you the re-opening time before we start rather than leaving you to judge it. For school sites we can supply DBS status for the operatives attending, along with RAMS and insurance.

Frequently asked questions
Can wetpour be pressure washed?
Not at high pressure. It tears the binder, lifts the rubber crumb and opens the surface up, which affects the critical fall height it was installed to provide. It needs low pressure, the right cleaner and a soft head.
Are the products safe for children?
We choose products so the surface is safe once it is rinsed and dry, and we give you the re-opening time before we start rather than leaving you to guess.
Why does moss keep coming back on our play surface?
Because washing removes the visible growth and leaves the spores. Treated properly it stays off far longer, which matters on a surface children run on in the wet.
Can you work during school holidays?
Yes, and for school sites that is usually what we suggest. Outside school hours also works for smaller areas.
Can you work during school holidays?
Yes, and for school sites that is usually what we suggest. Early mornings work for public parks.
Can you supply DBS details for the operatives?
Yes, for school and youth sites we can provide DBS status for whoever is attending, along with the usual RAMS and insurance.
Do you provide RAMS and insurance details?
Yes. A method statement and risk assessment for the specific job, plus our insurance details, before anyone comes to site.
Can you quote from photographs?
For a small or simple site, often yes. For anything with height, traffic management or drainage complexity we would rather walk it with you, because those are the things that change the price and the method.
